Vain Kings and Kingdoms Meet The Rod

“Sing Unto the Lord a New Song: Meditations From the Book of Psalms” Message Magazine’s Online Devotional for Monday, July 9, 2018

Listen to “Thoughts in Worship 07.09.2018” on Spreaker.

“Why do the heathen rage, And the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, And cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: The Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, And vex them in his sore displeasure.

Yet have I set my king Upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: The Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; This day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, And I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: Be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, And ye perish from the way, When his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him” (Psalm 2).

Human Arrogance At its Peak

Why do nations who have no desire to trust God create commotion and plot against liberty and justice in vain? Can they be self-deceived into believing they can prevail against Jesus and His eternal kingdom? Why do they think pride, wickedness, lust, racism, misogyny, and greed will continue forever? Even God is amazed by human arrogance and disregard for His holiness.

Be that as it may, if you are one of God’s people, you can rejoice in the fact that God has exalted Jesus to His rightful position. He sits upon the throne of the universe. At just the right time, after all nations have attempted, with futility, to rule the world, compel the population to live according to unholy paradigms, seek to erect false systems of worship to overcorrect the mess they have made, Jesus will return.

Praise and Trust That Name!

After the first two phases of God’s judgment are complete, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord.  For this we have all been waiting. God our Father will get all the praise due His holy name for giving us such a valuable gift, in the Person and work of Jesus Christ!

Sing unto the Lord a new song. Celebrate the blessedness of putting all your trust in the Son of God!
