“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (1 Corinthians 3:16–17).
What if we really believed we were the temples of a holy God? How would we live? How would we eat? What would our drinking habits involve? To what would we listen? What would we watch for casual entertainment, ifwe really believed we were dwelling places for God to have close communion with us? Would we rest more? What would be our exercise routine? What types of conversation would we entertain?
Better yet, how would we answer all of the questions above concerning how we treat others? Would we respect their lives, individuality, emotions, and bodies as tabernacles of the Most High God, or some plaything of which to take advantage?
God takes pleasure in investing time with us. He’s not happy when we are sad, sick, weary, discouraged, or suffering from abuse. He rejoices when we treat others with respect and love. He is a great God to have around, so why not treat ourselves and others as the holy oracles He always intended, and He will come divinely close to teach us the mysteries and wisdom of holiness.
