Based Upon Psalm 91:3-7
The Lord is our help in times of trouble. When the enemy assails us with trials and temptations, it is important to remember that the Lord is our refuge and fortress. When we are hid in Him, the enemy cannot harm us. It is said of the Lord that, “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.” Psalms 91:3-7.
The Lord is our refuge in the midst of trouble. He does not always deliver us from trouble, but He will always be with us in our trouble. The three Hebrew boys are a good example of this. God could have chosen not to allow the wicked Babylonians to throw three Hebrew boys into the fiery furnace; instead, He chose to allow it. The blessing of it all was that Jesus was in the fire with them, and not a flame was set upon them, nor was there the smell of smoke on their clothes.
In the end, if we choose to let the Lord be our fortress, He will protect us as He sees fit. Ultimately, He protects our souls from condemnation and prepares us for heaven. This is the most important. I thank God that He has not left me exposed and unprotected to the enemy’s attacks. He is truly our refuge in times of trouble.
