Every Good and Perfect Gift from the Father of Lights
Message Magazine’s Online Devotional for Sunday, September 10, 2017
This is devotional thought number 79 in our devotional series, “Essentials of Faith.” Our final subject is: Rejoicing in the Lord
Here’s the question for consideration: Does God withhold good things from me?
“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).
God gave you everything, yes everything, in one gift! That gift was Jesus Christ. If He was willing to give such a precious gift, in the Person and work of Jesus Christ, what would He withhold from those who love and serve Him? Nothing!
Don’t Sell Him Short
Check this out. You’re going to love this: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). Far too often, we sell ourselves short. We give up too easily. We think God has amnesia and forgets to make good on His promises.
He said He would never leave us nor forsake us, and some wonder why they aren’t hearing from Him at the very moment and in the manner they expect.
He promised to provide all our needs in the context of His limitless riches in glory if we seek Him first, and some of us worry about what we’re going to eat or wear.
He promised to give wisdom to all who ask, and some allow perplexities to interrupt our prayer lives where we can do the asking.
God knows we need food, clothing, relationship help, emotional stability, patience, help with our children, a place to stay, a place to fellowship with other believers, and peace of mind in a troubled world. He is our glorious Father; the embodiment of light and righteousness. He has made and kept promises to our foreparents. He has made and kept promises to us. His mercies fail not. Great is God’s faithfulness. Do you believe it?
Piece of Cake
The blessing of our theme text is that God went through all the planning and work to give us the greatest gift of all, His Son. Therefore, all of the rest of the stuff we need is easy!
If God were to give you 7 billion dollars today from His limitless financial reserves because He loves you, and you asked Him for $7 tomorrow, do you think that would be a problem? Do you think it would break the bank for Him to give you $7? You be the judge. God loves you. He demonstrated the fact by giving you infinitely more than the value of 7 billion dollars. In Christ, you have eternal life and the promise of immortality if you continue to trust Him until Jesus comes. Trust God to keep His promises and you’ll be fine.
