Five Steps to Nurturing Your Potential Greatness
It is crucial to recognize and celebrate the contributions made by women who have had a significant influence on society in observance of Women’s History Month. One such woman is Kamala Harris, the vice president of the United States of America, who has broken numerous glass ceilings throughout her career and made history by becoming the first woman, the first Black person, and the first person of South Asian descent to hold the position.
She was born in Oakland, California, in 1964, to parents who were immigrants from Jamaica and India. She graduated from Howard University, a historically Black university in Washington, D.C., and later received her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Harris began her career in public service as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California. She became the District Attorney of San Francisco, where she gained a reputation for being tough on crime while also implementing progressive policies such as a program to help first-time drug offenders find jobs and housing instead of sending them to jail.
In 2010, Harris was elected as the Attorney General of California, becoming the first woman, first African American, and first South Asian American to hold the position. As Attorney General, she focused on protecting consumers, fighting for equality, and taking on the big banks during the foreclosure crisis.
In 2016, Harris was elected to the United States Senate, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American woman to serve in the Senate. During her time in the Senate, Harris was a vocal advocate for criminal justice reform, immigration reform, and protecting the rights of marginalized communities.
In 2020, Harris made history again when Joe Biden selected her as his running mate in the presidential election. Her candidacy was historic not only because she was the first woman of color to be on a major party’s presidential ticket but also because of her nomination’s impact on women and girls across the country and, really, across the world.
On January 20, 2021, Harris was sworn in as Vice President of the United States, making her the first woman, first African American woman, and first South Asian American woman to hold the position. That is a lot of firsts! In her inaugural address, Harris spoke about the importance of representation and the responsibility she felt to pave the way for future generations of women and people of color.
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let us honor Kamala Harris and the countless other women who have paved the way for a more just and equitable world. Kamala Harris has broken down barriers throughout her career and fought for justice and equality. Her accomplishments are a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of representation in positions of power and influence.
Kamala Harris’s journey to becoming the Vice President of the United States was challenging. Whether you agree with her policies or not, one thing is sure – she faced numerous challenges and setbacks along the way but never gave up on her goals. She continued to work hard to achieve them.
For women who aspire to greatness, Vice Presiden Harris’s story is an inspiration and a reminder that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and perseverance. Remember that no matter what obstacles you face, they are not insurmountable.
Greatness is Upon You
Consider the following on your journey to greatness:
1. A critical step towards embracing your greatness is to believe that you can.
God created you, which means you can do all things as you embrace His power. Believe in your abilities, your strengths, and your potential. When you have confidence while ignoring self-defeating thoughts, you are more likely to take appropriate risks, pursue your goals, and overcome obstacles.
2. Success does not come easy (It definitely didn’t for Vice President Harris).
It requires hard work, dedication, and commitment. Whether it’s studying for exams, putting in quality hours at work, or pursuing your passions, you must be willing to put in the effort to achieve your goals.
3. Seek mentors and role models who can guide you along your journey.
Look for women who have achieved greatness in your field or area of interest and learn from their experiences. Their wisdom and advice can help you navigate the challenges and opportunities that come your way.
4. Always surround yourself with people who believe in you and support your dreams.
I know that is touchy for some. Your new brother (the one writing this) is a massive introvert, but you must understand that having a solid support network can help you stay motivated, overcome obstacles, and celebrate your successes.
5. Failure is a natural part of the journey to greatness.
Don’t be afraid to fail or make mistakes. Instead, use them as learning opportunities and as a chance to grow and improve. In the coaching community, I am in, we have a time during our weekly meetings when we share wins and lessons. See what some call failure as lessons/learning opportunities, and you will turn even your failures into a massive success.
Kamala Harris’s journey to becoming the Vice President of the United States is an inspiration to women everywhere. Her story serves as a reminder that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and perseverance. So, to all the women who aspire to greatness, remember to believe in yourself, work hard, seek out mentors and role models, build a support network, and embrace failure as a part of the process. With these tools and a strong sense of purpose, you, too can achieve greatness.
