The Times We Live In (Luke 21:11)

What a serious, interesting, hopeful, concerning, awakening, and anticipatory time we live in! In the last 10 years the news airwaves have brought to our view in the world and in our backdoors and prophet lenses.

Great Earthquakes: just this year significant earthquakes have quaked rare and diverse places.
- Magnitude 7.7 and 6.7 earthquakes Myanmar, March 28 (12 minutes apart)
- Magnitude 3.9 earthquake WNW of Independence, Utah, May 1
- Magnitude 5.6 earthquake S. Virgin Islands, May 4
Famines
- Populations facing extreme hunger. Compassion International reports One-third of the world’s food is wasted every year. If one-fourth of the food wasted across the globe could be recovered, it could feed 870 million people. An estimated 45 percent of deaths of children under age 5 are linked to malnutrition.
  - USDA Economic Research Service reports of the US population in 2023
    - 4 million people lived in food-insecure households.
    - 2 million adults lived in households with very low food security.
  - Pestilences In Various Places
    - The World Health Organization (WHO) cautions in their Disease Outbreak News (DONs), “The events reported in the DON is not an exhaustive list of events that WHO is responding to globally but include those that meet the criteria for information to be made available to the public.”

Fight or Flight

That was a lot to digest wasn’t it? Absolutely and if we stay solely focused on what is happening in the world and around us, we will be locked into a vicious fight or flight cycle of responses: increased heart rate, increased blood flow, adrenaline spikes, and all heightening of our senses.

It’s not abnormal to have these reactions, but our swiftness in rebounding is most important. Our survival, preservation of quality of life, faith is dependent on. But fear must also be discussed in the light of a grounded relationship with God.

One of the most widely used scriptures about fear is 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” It may seem contradictory that we have not been given this heart of fear, however, throughout the Old and New Testament in the Bible there are countless stories of fear and timidity both amongst the people of God and from Jesus’ followers. Taking a look at stories from Adam and Eve afraid to face God, to Gideon hiding in a winepress, Jonah running away from God, Moses timid and doubtful, David fearing his enemies to the disciples afraid in the storm, afraid of the demoniac, afraid of capture at Jesus’ death and the list goes on and on, down through the ages into 2025. Fear and timidity is gripping the world and in these United States.

In 2025 America fear is gripping the majority of the nation. Economic woes, political upheaval, bad policing, unsafe schools, diseases left unchecked, Blacks, Asians, Whites, children, Latinas, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, pregnant women, government workers, rich and poor are unsafe and fearful of the valleys of shadows and realities of death from and unsafe government and the timidity of most of the branches of government to fight for the saving of those who live within our borders.

The electing of the first American Pope in the history of Catholicism, the “what ifs” concerning his relationship and workings with the Trump administration, and the place and time we are in in End Time Prophecy has sent many into a fearful frenzy and has frozen hearts rendering them timid and dismayed from what should be focused on. In Luke’s words as if foretelling of today’s state of the Christian church frozen by the news, “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” Luke 21:26 (KJV)

Now More Than Ever

We are living in the last days and world events are reawakening the cry of Daniel and Revelation for us to be vigilant and sound in knowledge of the Word of God. But although the swift and chaotic at times events may shake us, it should shake to awaken us not to dismantle our hearts. Now more than ever we should:

Fill up and have a reserve of the Holy Spirit in our lives so that even though we slack off, when we are shaken up we will be grounded, mobilized, and ready. Matthew 25:1-13
Remember that God is with us and He will not forsake us and He will give us the strength to endure. Isaiah 41:10
It will get worse before it gets better, and all of us will experience the pangs, grief and trauma of these last days but God will guide and comfort us in our darkest valleys. Psalm 23:4
When we do have bouts of fear, run to love. God’s love when human hearts grow cold is the antidote and our grounding. 1 John 4:18
Trust God. Psalm 56:3
Pray without ceasing. Philippians 4:6-7
We have access to peace because Jesus has already overcome the world. John 16:33
Latch on to hope of the second coming of Jesus who brings with Him an end to all fear, death, and calamities, and a new tomorrow. Revelation 21:4
Be grounded and mobilized to continue God’s mission so that Jesus can return. “This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations. And then the end will come.” Matthew 24:14

Grounded To Be Mobilized

A sound mind, grounded in God’s Word, anchored in God’s love, joyous in the second coming of Jesus, and eager to share the Good News of a soon returning King is the call of the Holy Spirit to us right now. Time is of the essence and we have a mission to tell the World not only of the things to come but to prevent it from becoming frozen in fear, we must tell of the Love of God, Jesus’ sacrifice as the expression of His love, God’s joy in us being saved, and the joy waiting for us and coming when Jesus returns. (Matthew 24:8-13, Matthew 24:42-44 , 2 Timothy 3:1-5 , 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Revelation 1:1-10, Revelation 19 and 20).

What is our mission? Remind people that what we share with them is not to instill fear in their hearts but to offer the peace of Jesus who has already conquered sin (John 16:33), and we ourselves refocus our minds and get back to doing God’s work we signed up for!

“Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” Matthew 28:18-20
